The House Committee on Higher and Technical Education chaired by Rep. Mark Go (Lone District, Baguio City), in a virtual meeting on Thursday, discussed the status of public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) to develop appropriate and effective legislation for the delivery of their service amid the “new normal.” Go noted the important role of the education sector in supporting the frontline, and underscored the need for the sector to be provided with adequate support during and after the fight against COVID-19. Among the House Members who joined the meeting were Committee on Ways and Means Senior Vice Chair Rep. Estrellita Suansing (1st District, Nueva Ecija), Committee on Information and Communications Technology Chair Rep. Victor Yap (2nd District, Tarlac), and Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Diplomacy Chair Rep. Divina Grace Yu (1st District, Zamboanga del Sur). Meanwhile, the invited resource speakers included Commission on Higher and Technical Education (CHED) Chairman Prospero de Vera III, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Isidro Lape?a, Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) President and Executive Director Dr. Raymundo Arcega and Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA) Managing Director and Legal Counsel Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada.??
